This design proposes for a Light rail system to be introduced into Canberra. The light rail system will optimise the Public Transport System by connecting, during the first phase of the construction, stations at most of the major Centres of Canberra. This system will encourage the use of public transport by being very accessible and will offer tourists a very convenient method of travel around the City. The system will also connect the new Airport Terminal that is currently under construction to Parliament House, allowing for Politicians flying in and out of Canberra to easily, access Parliament House, and, to the City where they can stay at a Hotel. They can then catch the light Rail to Parliament House when needed.
Phase Two
The Second Phase of construction will allow for the Light Rail system to be expanded to other Activity nodes, Town Centres and large educational facilities within Canberra to better aid the residents of Canberra. The system design will vary depending on the existing infrastructure, which will allow for more flexibility when extending the line to areas where there is less space available for construction of stations and lines.
As shown below, there will be two variations in the line. The high line will be implemented in built up areas where there is little room for the rail and its stations. The line will run above ground, with stations also located above ground with lift and stair access to ground level.
The second variation will consist of a low line, which will run on ground level in areas that are less dense and newly designed Urban areas.
