The new structure that was designed to unite three separate buildings of Brussels Airport was designed by UN Studio Architects. It is a elongated fibrous structure. The insertion establishes its own identity while serving as a connection between contrasting entities of the terminal and Pier A.
The structural components for the connecting building are based on a sustainable approach formed with consideration to site constraints, constructability and operational flexibility. The infrastructural element introduced to the existing configuration translated its visual identity into recognizable imagery of fluent and undulating forms.
The design’s shape is the main aspect that caught my eye. I think that the form the design makes creates an organic approach to merging the existing buildings without the connecting building distracting from the other structures. This is what I am hoping to achieve with my station. It is also important that my design establishes its own identity against that of the Airport.
