Week 8

After reading a few articles on inhabitat.com, I found a concept designed by Phil Pauley, called The Eco Drive Monorail (EDM).
The EDM was designed to straddle over existing urban infrastructure like tunnels, houses, roads and other train tracks, creating an extra rail line for a train run. Two EDM trains operating on the same monorail can act as one unit or as two separate trains and can move in the same direction or in separate directions at the same time.

This design could be incorporated into the system that I would like to develop to create a less invasive rail system which will be more economically plausible.

Through incorporating this system, i would still like to create a light rail system, which also incorporates product and postage transfer, and incorporates other sustainable features.
Although I would like to have this system run through out Canberra,  (shown on map below) creating a more efficient public transport system for the whole of Canberra, and in doing this creating a more efficient way of traveling around Canberra for tourists as well (which might help increase the amount of tourists travel to Canberra, the main focus of this design project will be to create a more sustainable method of transport for Politicians to move around Canberra, particularly from the airport to Civic for accommodation and to Parliament House. I want to develop the system so that it will have a line with stations at Civic, Parliament House, CountryLink station, the Airport and The war Memorial.

I have also been thinking about creating a system that will allow people to commute between Sydney and Canberra. Even though there is a CountryLink service that runs from Sydney to Canberra, this service only runs twice a day, and takes over 4 hours per trip. This is longer that driving or taking the bus.
