Week 3 Lecture

Disambiguation
I found the concept of Next 21 in Osaka Japan very interesting and researched it a bit further. I like the idea of a collective housing project having so much flexibility. It seems fitting for a building that is so up to date with technology to use new ideas like this. I love the fact that they incorporated ecology into the building, by creating a green zone on the ground floor and continuing the green onto the green roof. The open terraces that were built on each floor makes the building look like it blends in with nature. It gives residents the chance to have a garden without a backyard.

Another exemplar that was mentioned in the lecture is Shigeru Ban, and his design of the Nomadic Museum at Santa Monica Pier. Buildings made from reusable materials have always fascinated me, and after reading about the museum I researched more buildings made from shipping Containers. My favourite part of the museum is that it has the ability to be dissembled and reassembled. This is the ultimate “flexible” building.

This lecture made the overall idea of the assignment a little bit clearer in regards to questions about the actual interim review in week 6. I am still unclear about the actual assignment and how it will relate to our overall design assignment due at the end of the semester.
