Tutorial 5 was spent with Jess finalising our proposal and trying to organise the layout and contents of our presentation panels. Claire was sick today so me and Jess finalised the concept and discussed our ideas with Jane to ensure we were on the right track so we could start figuring out the layout of our panels.
We discussed the following topics:
· Canberra being under utilised? It should be denser up in the future
· The new road that links Sydney and Canberra- Could we connect the two with a light rail in order to allow people to commute between Sydney and Canberra. (We then researched this and found that the CountryLink line connects Sydney and Canberra already. The CountryLink station is located in the suburb of Kingston, so we proposed to link CountryLink station to the rest of Canberra and the Airport).
Panel layouts Discussion:
Panel 1:
· Our strategy-
o at a discuss chosen parliamentary services or related activities that should be mobile.
o Virtual, flexible, mobile, distribute etc- sketches, graphs etc.
o Transport- show diagrams of the train systems of Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane etc. The show the lack of Canberra’s.
o Discuss why light rail is needed.
o Show a large scale map of Canberra and show what areas should be connected.
o Show present Canberra and how areas are spread out.
o Speculation of solution
o Investigation
o Strategy to make Canberra more connected in a sustainable way.
o Population growth
o Planning of Canberra- more utilised
Panel 2:
· Strategy at a meta level:
o Infrastructure- mobile- what do you need for it to exist
o Show how light rail is connected to existing infrastructure- airport, countrylink station, Parliament House etc.
o Another layer of existing infrastructure- maybe exploded view
o Show hoe infrastructure can be utilised and connected
o Photos of existing scale
o Examples of light rail use
o Graph of how sustainable light rail systems are compared to other transport.
Panel 3:
· Needs to demonstrate a more specific architectural speculation and hypothesis:
o Show how politicians are connected to Parliament house through light rail system
o Where do the stay when they are in Canberra?
o Relate all back to Partliament House
